Hang on a second.  That statement is a bit misleading.  Film lasts
MUCH longer than magnetic media.  In most (at least large) archives
disintegrating film is transfered first to fresh film and to video
afterward.  I don't think many companies would allow a badly
disintegrating roll of (nitrate?) film to be run through their
million dollar Ursa Gold.

I don't think anyone would recommend magnetic media over film for
extended term storage under any circumstances.
