[AV Media Matters] Video storage: winding issues

Hi Steve (and all readers)

I am astonished at how often I encounter reel to reel audio tapes
that have NOT been properly wound for storage.  The tails out
convention notwithstanding, even a tape recorded in more than one
direction should at least, be wound under capstan control.

And remember, sadly, the convention in video is to fast rewind open
reel tapes...

Of course, the most basketcase rewinds are perpetrated by virtually
all original wire machines...except the Magnecord SD1 which had
supply & take-up spool interchangeability...
