Hello,

There have been some interesting discussions taking place on this list, and
I'm really glad that I joined.  I just wish I had the expertise to answer
some of the questions, but all I have is a query.

Some of the work I do with language preservation involves creating WAV sound
files, as well as various file from photos, mostly as TIFFs JPEGs.  I will
soon be looking for the latest (or best) photo editing programs and sound
editors to use in the computer.

I will also be looking for a newer computer to use in this work, and I
wondered if anyone has any suggestions?  I'd like to know what has worked
well for you, as well as any horror stories so I might know what to avoid.

One thing I have been told is to not put too many programs on the computer as
they tend to conflict with each other, so hopefully your suggestions will
help me find the right ones to begin with.
