He was the first to draw attention to recording tricks as opposed to keeping them quiet. His biggest innovation was undoubtedly introducing the electric guitar on the National Barn Dance in Chicago.

There isn't much about recording that wasn't invented by the film industry in the 1930s, '40s and '50s.
