Its been  to many years since chemistry..but i believe you cannot magnetize aluminum..... so the wire must have some sort of coating that appears to be silver/aluminum  in color.
I have many spools of Webster and Silvertone/sears wire that look the same.  The old Webster Chicago runs mechanically but the electronics need re-capping >>>  ahh a job  for  later since i havent had any requests to transfer wire lately.
