Re: [ARSCLIST] SV: [ARSCLIST] Packburn 323A

Hello,

Yale HSR has always used the Packburn devices with a McIntosh C-32 preamp, an early example on which McIntosh had modified one of the phono inputs to 500 / flat (they could only do this with early C-32's; later ones had 2 parallel phono inputs and would be "all or nothing").

For my personal system I bought a Packburn / PS Audio phono preamp for the output of my "78-rpm" turntable. This unit still had its RIAA output but also had several different eq. curves, including one that is flat on top. Late-model Packburn units could be obtained with an anti-RIAA circuit to optimize high-frequency input for best results with the Packburn unit.

Sincerely, Richard

HI!

Does anybody know what other devices Dick Burns reccomended to be added
together with the Packburn 323A to make a best sounding set-up for playback
and analogue recording from old 78 rpm records?

Best regards
Jan

If you were going to use the Packburn, you would want an EQ to make
adjustments for abnormalities like hum or abnormal resonances anyway.

It wasn't designed to be used standalone.

HI Again!

May it be an idea to connect the Packburn into a paramertic equaliser and
try to reduce some more of the surface noise that way??

Hope to hear from you...

Best regards
