This prevented those copies (which were bought at a discount price from
the manufacturer/label), as they were "cut out" of the catalogue, from
being sold to the public (or even worse, RETURNED at some point in the
future to the vendor) at full price. People who saw the tabs cut out in
the corner knew that these were items bought by the retailer at a
discounted price.

Can anyone explain why certain LP's used to have a "cut-out hole" in
them, usually in the upper right or left portions of the album cover?
Did this also apply to 8-track tape cartridges as well?
