  Yes, it seems that I read that after about 1940 or '41, and until they adopted High Fidelity Magnetic Tape recording techniques in the late '40s, that Columbia recorded all their material onto 16" acetates at 33 1/3 RPM, and then dubbed the takes that they decided to release to the public onto lacquers at 78 RPM.
