#8125a "zebra tape" - I just found a stash of this at work.

I always use paper leader, too.

Speaking of horror splices, I just had a 40-year-old field recording (acetate) spliced with a "band-aid!" The goopy adhesive residue was unbelievable, but it didn't delaminate the oxide.
