1953 makes sense to me as well, given those matrix numbers (which were on the U
of Penn's site). Not the first time a record company has been totally offbase
in citing recording dates.

You might want to check with U Penn as there may be accompanying
documentation they received from Marian Anderson (contracts, logs,
diaries) that would settle the matter. They have a ton of this kind of
thing:

Good stuff! I'm sure this is more reliable than the RCA date on the
reissue (they didn't even try for the correct dates on the other side,
just showing "1947").
