Re: [ARSCLIST] The Big Show (or Broadcast)

THE BIG SHOW (you can't spell it in lower case) was the last big variety program on network radio, 1950--51 (or into '52?). Tallulah Bankhead and zillions of guest stars, 90 minutes every Sunday. NBC must have taken a bath on that program, although it would have cost only a fraction of what the same thing would cost on television.

I thought Valaida died a little later (May 30/56, according to Wikipedia).

Good on you David.
Another great show is the BBC's Malcolm Laycock's Big Bands.I have many back
issues 78 minutes a cd in very good sound.I am always willing to swop
material. Many great American Jazz men from Benny Carter to Danny Polo appear
on the recordings.
By the way what ever happened to Valida Snow ? I heard she died in
1955.Shewas lucky to escape the Nazi invasion of Denmark in
1940.Her records are just fabulous.
Fascinatingo hear that there was a show called BIG SHOW.When did it run on
Radio ?
Rich has e mailed me before but I could never understand why he seemed so
passe about the axing of his 275 back play list as if nothing hsad
happened ! I was most shocked and was really depressed about it for months
after as I was looking forward to recording the shows over a year or two
retirement work !

Great plug for FGRA (in which I'm another participant), and those BIG SHOW
broadcasts are fabulous, but THE BIG BROADCAST is a more recent program
hosted
for some years by Rich Conaty. We haven't heard from Rich for quite a
while on
78-C.

If you mean the Big SHOW, then I would suggest checking out First
Generation
Radio Archives http://www.radioarchives.org or Audio Classics
http://www.audio-classics.com .

They don't sell or offer mp3s, but their audio CDs generally sound
great,
and beat crappy mp3s hands down.

If you really mean the Big BROADCAST, check out this link (which I found
in
about 3 seconds of Googling):
http://www.wmkvfm.org/Podcast/tbb/TbbPod_Mp3.xml .
