THE BIG SHOW (you can't spell it in lower case) was the last big variety 
program on network radio, 1950--51 (or into '52?). Tallulah Bankhead and 
zillions of guest stars, 90 minutes every Sunday. NBC must have taken a bath on 
that program, although it would have cost only a fraction of what the same 
thing would cost on television.

I thought Valaida died a little later (May 30/56, according to Wikipedia).
