Re: [ARSCLIST] Murcury Living Presence LP EQ

They definitely are. Fennell was on his game every day of every Mercury session.

What would make you think they wouldn't be? The EWE actually got better as Fennell's tenure went along.

Assuming the performances are equally good.

Hi Sammy:

Mercury used AES EQ until 1954 when everyone standardized on the RIAA curve. The AES curve is very close to RIAA and I doubt most people could hear the difference. You could tweak the treble EQ to suit your hearing. There's not much information above 12K on those old LPs anyway.

Fennell went back and recorded some or all of this in stereo, and the CD is still in print:

I will guarantee you it will sound much better than an early 1950's LP.

Thanks to all who have helped with my questions on Scotch audio tape.

Does anybody have EQ data for pre-stereo Mercury Living Presence LPs? The
LP in question is MG40007, Fred Fennell conducting the Eastman Wind
Ensemble, Marches by Sousa and Others.

Thanks for your help!
