Re: [ARSCLIST] 16" transcription player on ebay

Hi Mike:

What do you mean by "they were not robust and easily ended up with skipping grooves"? Were they made of some material softer than vinyl?

On this topic, I am pretty sure I've seen or seen pictures of 16" vinyl LPs just like the Cosby Show but made to hold a half-hour music show that was syndicated. It might have even been an hour-long music show, with a break in the middle while the programmer changed sides of the 16" record. I can't remember the name of the show but I seem to remember that it was sort of an easy listening format.

If a syndicator had, say, 100-200 stations to send this weekly show, I would bet that it would be a lot cheaper back then to distribute on vinyl vs. duped tapes. Especially since one could theoretically guarantee uniform quality on the vinyl vs all the vagueries of tape duplication. This would be especially true for an hour-long show, considering it would require 2x 7" reels of 2-track tape or using very thin tape which was not a good bet with duping lines.

Sorry guys, I have seen both AFRS rebroadcast and Salvation Army, Heartbeat
Theater on 16" microgroove pressings. They were from late 1950's pressings
and they sounded just fine. Of course, they were not robust and easily ended
up with skipping grooves. Bad idea.
