Re: [ARSCLIST] MERCURY RECORDS Rockabilly C&W Bio-Booklet 50's PROMO - (item 260144098761 end time Aug-06-07 17:00:00 PDT)

Hello Kohji-san:

Nice to see you here, too. In case other listmembers are not familiar with Kohji-san's website:
http://microgroove.jp/mercury/
there is much useful information here.

As far as I know, Mercury Living Presence didn't put together booklets, but there were several iterations of the inner sleeves listing many of the titles. In the early days (pre-stereo), there was a sampler 12" LP with a cover picture of the famous single U-47 mic. The inner sleeve of that contained all the Mercury-originated classical records up to that point; it did not include the pre-1951 reissues of European material, which were out of print by then.

Kohji-san has collected numerous other smaller-disk Living Presence samplers:

Plus there was one other in the stereo era, a 2LP set called "Galaxy of Stars."

Anyway, when it came time to do the CD's, my mother did a similar thing with listing as many available titles as would fit in each booklet. Plus there were a couple of limited-run CD-booklet-sized printed catalogs that were sent out to those who mailed or called asking for one.

I do have one pocket-sized listing of Mercury Living Presence LP titles and catalog numbers from the early 60's. I think this was given to distributors and perhaps retail store buyers but was not distributed to the public as far as I know.

I have two other booklets - one from late 1940s or early 1950s, the other from 1956 or 1957. Both features Popular and Vocal artists with artist biographies, artist photo and list of Mercury releases.

I wonder if there were booklets for Mercury Classical artists
as well as those for Blues / Jazz artists, but I haven't seen 'em yet.

P.S.
Hi Tom Fine-san, nice to see your name here too :)
