[ARSCLIST] forwarded from the Stan Kenton list

One of the most famous landmarks on the Young Street Strip in Downtown Toronto will be closing it's doors.

Anchored at the corner of Young & Dundas, forever, it seems is SAM the Record Man. Every major celebrity whoever performed in Toronto always stopped by SAMS.

At the peak of it's hey day it's jazz department run by "Gunther" ( a personal friend of Stan) boasted every Kenton record that existed, plus so many incredible hard to get and hard to find albums, it was a collector's dream.

It seems there was a SAMS franchise in every major city in Canada, until a few years ago, slowly but surely, they started to fold, until all that remained was the main store on Young street as a reminder of the good old days.

Citing a 35% drop in CD sales right across the country, just in the first quarter, and with no sign of a turn around, the doors are closing on another classic bricks and mortar establishment, as the Internet takes over with it's downloads.

RIP SAMS
