Re: [ARSCLIST] Curious--was: well, this might <snip>
It gets exhausting when you figure that EMI UK stuff gets it's US
release on EMI US, or Capitol, or ____. Then there's EMI owned labels
like Mute records, that gets released in the US by Warner Brothers,
because of an existing deal that Mute/WB had before EMI acquired it.
You can only image the tangled web of tracing things back through 60+
years (Capitol) and 100+ years (EMI).
So please don't take it personally if I don't have time to chase down
answers to all of explicitly detailed questions I've received since my
posting yesterday.
My guess would easily be over 100 owned and/or distributed labels in the
US alone. Most are now defunct, but they still fill our history and our
archive.
The problem now is that there is more stuff being released, in more
versions (remix, video mix, radio mix, etc.) on more formats (Digital
Album Download, Digital Single Download, Video Single Download, CD, CD
w/bonus disc, CD Single....Ring tones). Things like ring tones become
archival issues, and they're hardly classified as archival. However,
when some artist does 1,000,000 ring tone sales, which generates $X
million in sales, you think about holding onto them...
Who knows, maybe in 5 years we'll be selling "Best of the Beatles" ring
tones sets?
Everyone things it odd how the younger generation gladly pays up to
$2.50 for a 5 sec SUB mp3 quality downloadable ring tone, but has no
interest in buying an hour long high quality (16Bit/44.1k) for $10 CD.
But understanding THAT logic (which doesn't require agreeing with it),
is a step in the right direction for the industry.

It's more than you might think.Off the top of my head,I can think of
like six or eight US Capitol subsidary labels, from the 70s or 80s,that
only a handful of 45s were issued on.

Are you talking current, or all of the labels we have owned?
Either way, I don't have a complete list off of the top of my head.

What other labels have come under the EMI umbrella? Imperial, Liberty,
United Artists come to mind.
