Workshop: Introduction to Digital Audio

This workshop will address issues related to the development,
implementation, operations, maintenance, access and funding of analog to
digital audio reformatting projects. It will also discuss born digital
audio recording technology.
Topics covered will include:
1. Understanding sound basics.
2. History of Audio Recording Devices.
3. Digital audio best practices, including modes of capture, sample
rate, bit depth, source types and file types.
4. Planning and implementing an audio digitizing project.
5. Legal, copyright and intellectual property issues.
6. Metadata for digital audio.
7. Outsourcing audio reformatting.
8. Quality control.
9. Storage and preservation of digital audio.
10. Delivery of digital audio.
11. Born digital recording.
This workshop is appropriate for participants with beginning to
intermediate knowledge of digital audio practices.
Tim Hawkins, Archvist for Naropa University and Chair of the CDP Digital
Audio Working Group will teach the workshop.
The workshop will run from 9am to 4pm and be held at the University of
Denver Driscoll Student Center. Refreshments will be served. Lunch is on
your own.
