Re: [ARSCLIST] Protective CD insert query

The paper is currently undergoing internal review here at CCI. Hopefully,
it should be published within 6 months.

Some interesting results about the effect that jewel cases have on CDs and
CD-Rs were discovered. What I can say right now is that replacing regular
holding trays with the Corrosion Intercept trays did not lead to more
stable discs. This conclusion was based on temp and RH accelerated aging.
The aging environment was "clean" or in other words no introduction of
pollutants in the aging atmosphere. It is not known if these trays would
benefit the discs in environments where there is a lot of pollution around.
(This is a planned study in the next year or so.)

As another teaser, if you go with gold metal layer and phthalocyanine dye
CD-Rs, neither jewel cases nor insert materials affect disc stability. As
expected. For other CD-Rs and CDs ...... I will inform the list when the
paper is published.

While browsing around the Bags Unlimited web site I noticed they sell the
Corrosion Intercept inserts. Has Joe Iraci's paper, described below, been
published? Looks like an interesting study (even though we are all
switching to hard drives, right?).
