Re: [ARSCLIST] current role of soundcards

I'm pleased that this paper has proven useful to people. As I said, it
was published yesterday to coincide with the National Recording
Preservation Board which met yesterday at the Library of Congress. All
I've done is get that link up fast. For the record, the roundtable for
which Ken's paper was commissioned was organized by Peter Alyea and
Larry Appelbaum of LC's Recording Laboratory, and Gene DeAnna, head of
the Recorded Sound Section.

More papers from the roundtable held last March will be published soon.

An informal, unofficial notice:

Earlier this year, the National Recording Preservation Board
commissioned a set of white papers relating to digital-related topics
in sound preservation. The very first of these papers to be
"published" was placed on the web this very morning. It is
"Measurement and Evaluation of Analog-to-Digital Converters Used in
the Long-Term Preservation of Audio Recordings" by Ken Pohlmann.

A formal announcement of this publication will come from LC in the
next few days but given today's thread, why wait? It's a wonderful
work.
