Re: [ARSCLIST] MARC Records for Open Reel Tape

Christie,

The World Music Archives at Wesleyan has full MARC records for all of its open reel collections. Go to http://ctwweb.wesleyan.edu:7003/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&PAGE=First and run a keyword search for "world music archives." The default sort is reverse chronological , so you can try jumping to the end of the list or else sort it oldest-newest, since our earlier tapes are more likely to be open reel. In a record, click on Staff View to see the MARC record with 007 and 008 fields.

Most of our recordings are musical, but there are around 150 spoken word titles in the collection.

I'm looking for examples of how institutions have done item-level MARC cataloging for open reel tape, especially spoken-word. There are so many redundant, optional and seemingly irrelevant fields for audio recordings that I'm interested in comparing our choices to others'. If you've got some publicly-available cataloging like this that you're particularly proud of, I'd really appreciate being pointed toward it.

Thanks!
