The source of virtually all great original recorded music has been live performances by full time professionals. It's the goose that laid the golden eggs we call records. We can financially support the nurturing of those who seek to contribute to the repertoire or we can bottom-feed exploiting the contributions from the past.

This is the fundamental reason why I take my positions about intellectual property no matter if I sometimes appear to be taking the side of the large record companies. I don't think it's an accident that most great music came out of a vibrant scene where performers and composers could make a decent living.
