On occasion I have had some luck working directly with
publishers...usually because I have a personal contact with them. Most of
the time I have to work through Harry Fox. Compounding the problem is
ERMA. They tell the pressing plants that if you press 1,000 copies, the
label has to show proof that they have paid the license for 1,000
copies...even if you only sell 100 copies. As you probably know, it costs
only a little bit more to press 1,000 copies versus 500, which is about
all we usually sell of most of our titles.
