Gasoline becomes rancid if stored for a considerable length of time. I'm very
familiar with the characteristic smell from abandoned cars and 55 gallon
drums. You need to add a preservative if you plan to store gasoline for several
months.

I've just been cleaning out an abandoned basement full of junk. There seems
to be nothing that won't be recycled by the organisms in a damp dark place.
Even plastics are attacked and the acids produced will turn the metal parts into
piles of colorful oxides by electrolysis.

Control of humidity is the most important part of a storage facility. The
cold of the arctic or the heat of the desert are fine if it is dry enough.
