But the point everyone's trying to make is if you're going to be working in a 24-bit environment, then you have do do the initial transfer at that rate. You can't transfer it at 16 bits and then decide later on to convert that to 24 bits. There's absolutely no benefit to that, and actually may be worse than if you had kept it at 16 bits all along.

That is just not true. See my previous e-mail explaining why processing in 24-bit when you start with a 16-bit sample and end with a 16-bit output file WILL give you benefit!
