The laser power in CD writers is adjusted to a particular media type and
writing speed.
Since reviewers rather tend to stress high speed capability, writing is
usually optimised for higher speeds.
Only few drives are optimised for 1x writing, like SONY CDU948 or CDW900 or
Plextor PLEXMASTER designed with pre-mastering in mind.

Audio CDR media by nature have to be 1x compatible.

Did anyone on this list perform exhaustive media testing, e.g. with AudioDev
CATS system?
