I had some of the same stuff, which did not hold up so nicely. Even baking
it a few times did not alleviate the problem very well.

Just my 2c - I used a lot of Sony 1800' tapes which I got at a local hi
fi store, and they have held up better than most other off brands, Red
box and yellow box were normal and "high bias" types. This was 1970 -
1972, and they still play nicely...
