Perhaps I have mentioned this before, but I am reminded of the days when I
taught classes in computer/electronic music. During the course of the
semester I would give my "health" lecture re: listening at loud
amplitudes. Without fail, there would at least one student in the class
who had been playing in a rock and roll band since the age of 15 or so.
They would point that out and say, "it hasn't hurt my ears." I would then
ask if they would be willing to let me check their listening. I remember
one 20 year old who could not hear 10,000 cps.
