Works just fine!  Do this all the time on heavily damaged discs.

If there's valuable signal around 20 Hz (for example), then you need 
a cartridge that can faithfully reproduce 10 Hz, and is reasonable
flat in the low-end - otherwise you're going to get some low frequency
bumps that you may have to fix later.

But in some cases, half speed is the only way to play a damaged 
disc.

This brings up another question: has anyone tried half-speed transfers of
78's, perhaps transferring flat, then "doubling" the speed in the digital
realm and then applying an EQ curve? Seems like this might have a lot of
benefits if it works.
