Re: [ARSCLIST] Seen at AES NYC

I've read negative comments about the quality of the preamps in this recorder, giving the impression that while it might be perfectly adequate for non-critical recordings (interviews and the like) it isn't suitable for serious music recording.

The British Library Sound Archive has had a handful of these for a little over a year, and has been fairly happy with them. We had a small number of failures using ATA Flash cards, but since swapping to Compact Flash I don't think there have been any problems. Note though that however big the storage medium is, the machine won't generate a file greater than 4Gb.

I've been enthralled by this thing for a couple of years now, but
neither we (the Vermont Folklife Center) nor I have ventured to buy one
yet.

A visitor to the field recording equipment website that I maintain
recently emailed a comment about the unit--that it has been "plagued by
file corruption problems." This note was the first I've heard about any
problems with the unit, and since it came out of the blue I don't know
what to think.

Has anyone else come across this issue? The one review I've seen of the

FR2 was stellar.
