[ARSCLIST] Best CD/DVD marking practice?

I had no idea, until I came across the info in this list, that all DVDs
consist of 2 layers of plastic, with the sensitised layers sandwiched
between them. I had assumed that, like CDs, they consisted of one plastic
layer with the sensitised layers on one side.

If this is true, perhaps there's no need to treat the DVDs as carefully as
CDs when marking them. Recommended practice for CDs is to mark them in the
spindle area, away from data. If the top of DVDs is plastic, is there any
need to avoid the data areas?

Salutations, David Lewiston
