At a guess, I'd say the tape is drifting off-track (I once had this
happen with a r-2-r deck). First, get it cleaned professionally, and
check all the items that actually move the tape as well as anything it
passes over which could be dragging it. Beyond that, I'm unfamiliar with
Nakamichi, so I couldn't say specifically...
