So did Columbia just launch the LP with demonstrations that day, or did they actually have product ready to sell?
Incidentally, one of the truly great ironies of the LP birth is that the Canadian launch, the following January or
February, was commemorated with a special record...a 78! Side one of "I Can Hear it Now". I also have an oddball
ten-inch lp, pressed by Sparton of Canada, labelled "Sample Pressing for the I.R.E. STAG BANQUET", February 16, 1949,
London Ontario". No idea what IRE is, and it's not the kind of "stag" record you think..it has Xavier Cugat on one
side and a classical piece on the other.
