I don't trust any of the pens out there. We copy the individual CD matrix number into our catalog so that if the CD is ever separated from the jewel case/box we can track it.

While there is question about using the pens on the working surface as I usuall do, it is safe to use the water-based pen to write on the clear inner ring or, on DVD, on the metallized area which is also not recordable.
