Re: [ARSCLIST] HELP! Ampex 350 series electronics set up mystery?

Hi, Rick,

Otari still manufactures a version of this, have you contacted them?

I realize that your institution may be reluctant to purchase stuff on eBay,
but surely there are ways around this.

For example, I just won a Sony APR-5002 tape machine on eBay for $86 now it
may not be working, but the heads look good. I also got a fully working (as
far as I can tell) Sony PCM-3202 digital reel to reel on eBay with manual,
extender card, and remote for $255.

Bargains still exist on eBay -- although in many instances you end up
paying more than the item is worth. While there are ripoff scams around on
eBay, there are also many, many good transactions. It's something we're
going to have to live with if we want to play old tapes--at least until
archives are ready to collectively buy 100 tape machines a year at $30,000
each for a really good tape machine. I wonder if we could get Studer
interested in a play-only version of the A820 for 1/2 and 1/4 track for
1.88 to 30 in/s at that price/quantity?

Cheers,

Richard

I don't suppose anybody can direct me toward an online manual for an Otari
MX5050B-2HD reel-to-reel recorder? Or a copy from a "legitimate" source? I
have found photocopies of manuals for sale, and used copies on e-Bay, but my
institution is reluctant to go those routes.

Thanks,

Rick Taylor
