Re: [ARSCLIST] What to do with 2-inch tapes?

There are eight tracks on these tapes. What is a noise reduction system? How would I know if they are encoded with that or not?

How many tracks are on these tapes? Perhaps the best way is to import them into a multitrack DAW, where they could be stored on a removable hard drive and also archived to DVD-R or DLT tape, but it would be best to use high-quality A/D converters, and it might be good to also try to preserve them on some stand-alone digital tape format. Possibilities would be DA78HR tapes - 3 machines can sync up for up to 24 tracks at 44.1/24 Bit or 12 tracks at 96/24 - or a Sony 3324 Dash machine. As far as the analog machine that would be used for playback, I would recommend the Studer A-800 24 track machine - it has the best sounding electronics of any 24 track that I have heard. Keep in mind that depending on the vintage and brand of the tapes, they may need to be baked.
