[ARSCLIST] ARSC Technical Committee News

Title: ARSC Technical Committee News

Association for Recorded Sound Collections Names New Technical Committee Co-Chairs:
I’m pleased to announce that Adrian Cosentini and Mike Casey are the new co-chairs of the ARSC Technical Committee.  Mike is currently the Coordinator of Recording Services at the Archives of Traditional Music at Indiana University, and was formerly the Sound & Image Librarian at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  He has been an ARSC member since 1987 and served on the Board of Directors as Secretary from 1989-1991.

Adrian is the Chief Audio Engineer at Vidipax in New York, and was previously the Chief Audio Engineer at the Rodgers & Hammerstein Archives at the New York Public Library. Adrian has been also been active in ARSC for many years and has been a long time member of the Technical Committee and the Cylinder Subcommittee.

Adrian and Mike bring a wealth of experience and broad range of knowledge to this joint position.  Both have managed audio restoration studios and have worked with all types of audio formats. They've also been active in other audio-related organizations, have mentored numerous individuals, and have been frequent presenters at conferences. Adrian and Mike have already begun working to expand the scope and membership of the committee, and I’m sure they will be putting together a fabulous session for the 2005 conference in Austin, Texas (March 30-April 2).  Look for future announcements about the conference and other Technical Committee activities.

I would also like to express my thanks to Seth B. Winner and Gary Galo, the Technical Committee Co-Chairs from 1996-2004. Over the past eight years they have organized many wonderful and extremely informative technical sessions, including several roundtable panels on audio restoration, which have always drawn a full house and have become a significant feature of the annual conferences. During their tenure as co-chairs, they've also been very successful in increasing the number of people involved in Technical Committee presentations and activities. Please join me in thanking Seth and Gary for eight years of hard work on behalf of ARSC. They've asked for a brief rest period, but I'm sure we'll be able to count on them to participate in many future conference sessions and workshops.

Brenda Nelson-Strauss
ARSC President
