Thanks for your comment, Steve. The point I wish to make is that my
methodology (comparing the same performance captured through the same
mike(s), and proven by means of the "phasing test" - that is, mixed together
with one version out-of-phase with the other, and listening for the
"shwooosh" effect as the two crawl into synchronism and out again)
eliminates the chance of two different mike(s) having been used. It also
eliminates the chance of different "takes" being used for the assembled
performance, which sometimes happened for early microgroove issues copied
from 78 metal-parts.

Not to mention issues, often ascribed to record equalizaion, but actually
introduced by the use of various microphones and the calabration of
individual ones within that group.
The example that comes to mind is the voice of Flagstad, recorded in the US,
where, when recorded in concert from a distince, has a unique light hue,
but, when recorded close-up, becomes a primary color.
