longevity is a minor concern for mixed cds, not so much for the dups. Any
sort of reference for point of diminishing returns would be helpful.

There are many differences among recordable discs; none of them is related to the quality of the sound they produce. They vary in recording quality, recording length, recording speed, durability and expected life. Some of those factors depend on their being compatible with your recorder, some with your playback environment.

There may indeed be a best choice (there are certainly better and poorer
ones) for your equipment and your application.
