This isn't exactly a direct answer to all of the above, but it may be of
use:

I get my MAM-A's from American Digital http://www.american-digital.com/.
They've got good prices (at the time I bought my 74-minute and 80-minute
MAM-A's, they were 79 cents each in lots of 100) and quick delivery. They
also have T-Y's (silver only -- AFAIK that's the only kind now), which I
paid 29 cents/100. Prices may be different now, but I bet they're still
good. The only problem: the MAM-A's come spindleless in shrink-wrap, and
occasionally they're cracked. I found 3 cracked ones in a stack of 100
80-minute CDs and one defective one among the 100 74-minute CDs. AD says
they'll make good on them. Even if not, the loss of $3.16 out of 200 CDs
isn't all that bad.

AD has their own brand of gold CD called KLONE. I don't know how the quality
compares to MAM-A, but AD charges more for KLONE. For that matter, I don't
know how current MAM-A's compare to older Mitsui, but I bet they're pretty
much the same.

No, I don't work for AD or get any kickbacks. Just suggesting a good
supplier I use. If anyone knows a better one, I'm all ears.
