[ARSCLIST] 4-track tape players in Southern California

Dear friends:

A graduate student from overseas will be visiting Los Angeles next week to
do research into some ca. 1960s audio tapes. I believe the tapes are
4-track reel-to-reel. (Sorry, I don't know the make of the machine that
recorded them. I do know that they were definitely made in a home setting
by a non-professional.)

The problem: The sound archive where she will be based does not have a
4-track tape player to play the tapes back. She is faced with the arduous
task of listening to them on a 2-track player and attempting to learn what
she can.

If anyone in Southern California has a 4-track player that they would be
willing to loan for all or part of the week, I'm sure the student would be
very grateful. The machine would stay at the library the whole time in a
climate-controlled, secure setting with AV professionals in attendance to
assist as needed.

I know this is a big "ask" but I am hoping that someone would be willing
and able to help out. If the logistics pan out, the machine could be
dropped off and picked up in west LA. I am happy to pay mileage and any
other reasonable expenses in support of this student's work, which is of
great interest to me.

Kindly contact me off-list if you or someone you know may be able to help.

Sincere thanks,

Joel Bresler
