As I have mentioned in the past, we find the safest approach to both
heads & rollers is to use high purity 1-propanol[ aka n-propanol or
1-propyl alcohol) & not to use isopropy alcohol as is common
practice. The former is simply the least aggressive, effective solvent
available for wiping rubber & plastic parts.
While available in larger volumes from 1/2 liters on up it is not
available in commercially offered in small quantities such as 10-100
mL. Upon request we can package these smaller amounts at minimal
cost upon request.

Pinch rollers are made of many materials so there can be no rules. I've
seen ones that turned to gooey tar and others that got so hard they
cracked.
I haven't seen evidence that alcohol damages any, though overuse (after
each tape pass) might. I've reclaimed hardened ones with a material
called "Re-Grip" from Rawn Company, Inc., Spooner, Wis. 54801
but this is not for routine cleaning.
What seems to work best for me is saliva applied with the finger followed
with a good q-tip scrubbing.
