I might add that Richard is one of several people I can think of who
are particularly knowledgable on the subject of transferring audio
material from tapes that are in less-than-optimal condition.  I
believe there are a few war stories on his site concerning tapes that
shed oxide, or whose layers were stuck together...among other fun
facts concerning the stability (or lack thereof) of magnetic recording
media :)
