I recently saw a partial checklist of 78rpm discs issued in Canada on the
Aurora label (http://settlet.fateback.com/AuroraVic.htm) and saw an item of
particular interest to me. It appears that Aurora basically reissued Victor
material, is that correct?

I would very much like to obtain a scan of the the label for Aurora 225
which contains two fiddle tunes played by J. W. Day ("Grand Hornpipe" and
"Black Eyed Susie"). If anyone on the list has such a disc, I would be more
than happy to pay for a good scan. I have been working on a book about this
artist and was previously aware only of the five U.S. Victor discs he made
(1928). It would be great to see the label for the Canadian Aurora release
if anyone can help me out.

Thanks!!

P.S. I'm not sure if any of Day's other records were issued in Canada or
elsewhere (Australia?). Day was better known in the U.S. as "Jilson Setters"
and that name appears on some of the Victor labels, so might show up
elsewhere as well.

The Aurora label was pressed by two different companies. Those pressed by
VTM(C) seem mostly to draw from sides cut
for Timely Tunes, although some standard sides were taken from the Victor
catalog. Other Auroras were pressed by
Brunswick, and drew from their catalog. The Aurora you are talking about
appears to be a reissue of Victor V-40127,
which was probably issued a year or so after it was recorded and may have
been on HMV-Victor under that number
(at least some V-40000's were issued up here).
