Try Mengelberg, my favorite conductor, and Coppola, whose performance I
prefer to all others, rare for a Mengelberg nut like myself. I took over
Ronald Klett's Willem Mengelberg Society after he died. It consists of
e-mail messages about Heer Mengelberg and his recordings, about two
messages a week. It's free. Just send me an e-message to my other e-mail
address, checker@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, and I'll put you on the list and
send you one long e-mail of all the messages to date for your perusal. I
also run a list of classical music and other arts, about three or four

I see your point Mike but nevertheless there must be some
memorable versions and others that are not. Let me phrase
my question better:

Are there any renditions of this work that many or even some
fans of this piece find particularly stirring?
