Position Title: Audio Archivist
Hours/Week: 40
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: $40,000 annually

Position is scheduled for 2 years.

Job Summary: The Archivist will serve as team leader for a two year
grant-supported project year with the goal of transferring analog audio
recordings created over the past 30 years at the Jack Kerouac School of
Disembodied Poetics to digital media, with concurrent cataloging and
dissemination.

Job Duties: Primary responsibilities will include the management of
analog-to-digital reformatting of the collection, the implementation of
cataloging and other technical procedures, and the supervision of
administrative staff, student audio technicians and outside consultants.
Will be instrumental in establishing policy standards for preservation and
description of the collection including technical protocol and finding aid
structures. Will manage work flow and work schedules, hire, train, and
evaluate staff, and develop and maintain quality control procedures for
transfer, cataloging and management of preservation and cataloging
materials. Working with the Project Director, will plan the goals for the
University s Audio collections, supervise the project budget, and assist
in the development of grant proposals. Will be expected to make
professional contributions beyond the primary job, e.g. publications and
active participation in University and professional organizations;
participation with colleagues on relevant international electronic mail
lists; production and dissemination of model guides, forms, plans, and
policy statements for archival work in general, and for other scholarly
and creative activities. We anticipate that the Archivist will also assess
other Naropa special collections and have a role in planning for their
management.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school with coursework
in archival administration and three to five years experience in an
archival repository. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with audio
collection processing and description. Familiarity with MARC, EAD and
Dublin Core cataloging protocols as well as Anglo-American Cataloging
Rules and Library of Congress Authority Files. Strong commitment to
excellence and demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as
collaboratively, in a complex and changing environment. Preferred
qualifications include certification by the Society of American
Archivists, experience with digital audio processing and access via the
World Wide Web, management of grant supported projects, and promotion of
primary archival resource materials to target users. Knowledge and
interest in post World War II arts and letters strongly desired.
