I do not understand the comment about Marshall McCluhan.  I have always
been interested in McCluhan and, although he seemed to be like he was kind
of crazy, he was also kind of brilliant.  What are you saying about the
"probe."?

Approximately, he is saying that he knew he was being sarcastic. We who only read his words, not his mind, are unprepared to participate in the discussion.
