I just purchased a 1960s Ampex reel-to-reel tape recorder Model 1100 Series. I like to pick these recorders just to keep them from the dump, and to fix them up. I've fixed lots of Sony, Panasonic and Akai recorders--mostly needed mechanical repair, like lube and new belts.
My problem: I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET INTO THE AMPEX MACHINE! The box has no screws, and the face is a maze of equipment, and the plate seems very complicated to unscrew.
Does anyone on list know of a webpage where I could get this information? Many thanks!
