The Yamaha approach may be cute but it is impractical from all reports. It
requires specific media for the writing to be visible. It uses unburned
portions of the disc so storage efficiency is compromised. Visibility is
substantially less than a marker would provide and very little text can be
written.
Note that while conventional marking allows the user to see the contents
before removing the disc, T@oo (or whatever) requires you to open the
packaging and read the bottom of the disc at the edge. Even slipping it
into a window envelope working side forward won't help; the envelope covers
the information.
