The Shure M64 or the Stanton 210 preamps can be had on ebay for around
50-100, and offer all discrete components and are very high quality,
much better then most that can be had today.

There are some simple circuits with good RIAA correction on the Files
page 
of the CD-R side of my WWW site:

The same page has information on two inexpensive commercial boxes.
Higher 
precision is available at higher cost from many sources.
