Ist INTERNATIONAL GOURMET MUSICAL MUSIC OF LATIN AMERICA RESEARCH AWARD
Call for Papers
Gourmet Musical is dedicated to the research, compilation, and dissemination
of Argentine and Latin American music.
Gourmet Musical aims to gather, organize, and distribute reliable
information about biographical and discographical resources on Latin
American music. Its principal objectives are: 1) to facilitate quality
research for scholars who are interested in the area of Latin American
music; 2) to stimulate a vibrant discussion between scholars and performing
artists; and 3) to encourage the research and recording of contemporary
Latin American music, especially recordings that are not easy to find in
traditional record distribution channels.
To celebrate its third year of existence, Gourmet Musical invites all
interested scholars to submit research to its 1st Music of Latin America
Research Award.
GUIDELINES:
1- Scholars of all nationalities and age are invited to participate by
submitting unpublished research, which may be historical, analytical,
critical, theoretical, or bibliographic in nature. The subject may center
around Latin American music of any time period, composer, or genre.
2- Submissions may be no longer than 40 pages and must be typed on A4 or
Letter-sized paper, double spaced, with one inch margins.
3- Submitting scholars should include a diskette or CD with their work in
.doc, .txt. or .rtf format and ensure that it is readable by PC computers.
They should also include one hard copies of their paper in A4 or
Letter-sized paper.
4- Participating scholars should include a sealed envelope with the name,
address, telephone, e-mail, and resume of the author inside. The scholar?s
self-selected pseudoym should be written on the outside of the envelope
along with the title of the research paper. All pages of each hard copy
should be signed with a pseudonym.
Research papers written by more than one author will be accepted, but
multiple authors should chose just one pseudonym to represent their work. In
the case that the work of multiple authoris is selected for the award,
authors will receive a single prize to be devided equally among them.
5- Research papers may be submitted in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. In
case of publication, editors may require that scholar(s) translate their
work into Spanish.
6- Research papers must be postmarked by the November 1st, 2002 and sent to:

7- Award winners will be selected by a jury consisting of these three
members:
Peter Manuel (CUNY, USA), Victoria Eli Rodriguez (Universidad Complutense de
Madrid, España), and Leonardo Waisman (CONICET, Argentina)
8- Works will be evaluated based on originality of subject matter,
contribution to Latin American Music bibliographic resources, and the
clarity of argument and writing style.
9- Three articles will be selected and their authors will receive $300
Argentine pesos each. Award winning research will be published in the
following scholarly journals: Música e Investigación (Instituto Nacional de
Musicología ?Carlos Vega?), Revista del Instituto de Investigación
Musicológica ?Carlos Vega? (Universidad Católica Argentina), and Revista del
Instituto Superior de Música (Universidad Nacional del Litoral).
Two honorable mentions will be made for works that specialize in amplifying
bibliographic resources, discografies, and hemerography. These articles
will be electronically published on Gourmet Musical?s web site
(www.gourmetmusical.com).
The jury reserves the right to delcared any price as deserted
10- Jury decisions are final. Submission of research to the jury implies
acceptance of all rules and guidelines. Exceptions to the rules outlined or
future ammendments made inthe case of an unforeseen circumstance will be
made by Gourmet Musical and all decisions will be irrevocable.
11- The final awards will be announced and delivered to winners on a date to
be determined and announced to all participants. Gourmet Musical reserves
the right to publish any or all articles which are submitted to the jury,
granted prior communication with its author. Submissions that are not
awarded by the jury may still be considered for publication on Gourmet
Musical?s web site.
12- Research papers that do not receive award status may be returned to
author so long as requests are made within 30 days of the award
announcement. After that time period has pased, Gourmet Musical will not be
held responsible for returning hard copies to their authors.
13- All information or ammendments to these guidelines related to the Awards
will be published in the appropriate section of Gourmet Musical?s site (see
www.gourmetmusical.com/award.asp ).

Ier CONCURSO INTERNACIONAL GOURMET MUSICAL DE INVESTIGACION SOBRE MUSICA DE
LATINOAMERICA
Gourmet Musical es una organización dedicada a la investigación,
documentación y distribución de Música y Musicología argentina y
latinoamericana.
GM reúne, ordena y brinda información confiable y autorizada sobre la
bibliografía y discografía existente sobre el tema y su objetivo principal
es el de ofrecer una herramienta para mejorar las condiciones de trabajo en
el campo de la investigación musical, estimular el intercambio entre
investigadores y artistas e incentivar la investigación y la producción
musical contemporánea, sobre todo aquella que tiene menos difusión a través
de los canales tradicionales.
En celebración de su tercer aniversario, Gourmet Musical convoca a los
investigadores interesados a participar del Iº Concurso Internacional
Gourmet Musical de Investigación, dedicado a trabajos sobre Música
Latinoaméricana.
1- Podrán participar investigadores de cualquier nacionalidad y edad, con
trabajos de investigación originales e inéditos sobre historia, análisis,
crítica, teoría, bibliografía o discografía de la música latinoamericana de
cualquier género y período.
2- Se aceptarán artículos originales e inéditos de hasta 40 págs. de
extensión, contados en hojas tamaño A4 a doble espacio.
3- Los trabajos deberán ser entregados en diskette o en CD en archivos para
PC en formato . doc, .txt. o .rtf . Los mismos deberán estar acompañados por
una copia impresa en formato A4 (o carta en su defecto).
4- Todas las copias deberán estar firmadas con seudónimo y el envío deberá
estar acompañado por un sobre cerrado con el nombre, dirección, teléfono,
e-mail y curriculum del autor. En el exterior del sobre deberá mencionarse
el seudónimo y el título del trabajo presentado. Se aceptarán trabajos de
más de un autor, debiendo figurar como un único seudónimo y recibiendo un
solo premio.
5- Se aceptarán trabajos en castellano, portugués e inglés. Los editores
podrán solicitar que el autor se encargue de realizar una traducción al
castellano en caso de ser seleccionados para su publicación.
6- Los trabajos deberán enviarse por correo antes del 1 de noviembre de 2002
a:

7- Los ganadores de los premios serán seleccionados por un jurado integrado
por: Peter Manuel (CUNY, USA), Victoria Eli Rodriguez (Universidad
Complutense de Madrid, España), Leonardo Waisman (CONICET, Argentina)
8- En la evaluación de los trabajos se valorará particularmente la
originalidad del tema elegido, los aportes que la investigación aporte en
relación al estado actual de la bibliografía sobre el tema, claridad
expositiva.
9- Se seleccionarán 3 artículos que recibirán cada uno $300 (pesos
argentinos) y serán publicados en las revistas Música e Investigación
(Instituto Nacional de Musicología ?Carlos Vega?), Revista del Instituto de
Investigación Musicológica ?Carlos Vega? (Universidad Católica Argentina) y
Revista del Instituto Superior de Música (Universidad Nacional del Litoral).
Se otorgarán dos menciones especiales para trabajos relacionados con
bibliografía, hemerografía y discografía, los que serán publicados en el
sitio web de Gourmet Musical.
Cualquiera de los premios o menciones podrá ser declarado desierto.
10- Las decisiones del jurado serán inapelables. La presentación al concurso
implica la aceptación de las bases. Cualquier situación imprevista será
resuelta por Gourmet Musical y su decisión será inapelable.
11- El premio será entregado en fecha a confirmar. Gourmet Musical se
reserva el derecho de decidir editar ?previa comunicación al autor-
cualquier artículo participante en su sitio en internet, aún cuando no haya
sido seleccionado por el jurado
12- Los trabajos que no obtengan el premio podrán ser retirados hasta un
plazo de 30 días, luego del cual Gourmet Musical no se responsabiliza de su
devolución.
13- Cualquier información o novedad adicional sobre el Premio, será
publicada en la sección del sitio Gourmet Musical dedicada al mismo, en
www.gourmetmusical.com/concurso.asp .
